In the midst of a national outcry against ICE, local human rights defender fights back
Seattle, WA- Immigrant activist Maru Mora Villalpando will attend her second hearing before an immigration judge to fight back against political retaliation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for her work in support of immigrants in the country. At the end of December, immigrant activist Maru Mora Villalpando received a letter from ICE calling for her deportation as a retaliation for her work against detentions and deportations. Her last court, originally scheduled for May 22nd, was postponed for Tuesday June 26th.
During Maru Mora Villalpando’s court a tribunal against ICE will take place outside the building. “As ICE takes me to court, I’m taking them to the People’s tribunal in our community”, said Mora Villalpando. Over a thousand signatures will be submitted to the building management where ICE rents office space, calling for management to evict the agency.
