The City Council of Portland will hear public testimonies in response to the Socially Responsible Investment (SRI) committee’s proposal for a Do-Not-Buy-List of prison profiteers such as Wells Fargo and Bank of New York Mellon. The City of Portland will be the first city in the nation to divest from prisons so this is a very monunental decision!
The city council members will hear testimony from people who have been directly or indirectly affected by the prison system as well as community leaders who feel strongly about divestment from private prisons. If you know anyone who has been formerly incarcerated, or if you have personally been affected by the prison system, please reach out to us and we can help you draft a testimony to present at the meeting!
Those of you who aren’t presenting testimony, your attendance at the meeting with signs and support is equally important and greatly appreciated.
